Description

MSLs are recognized experts in a therapeutic area who provide deep, cutting-edge medical and scientific information to support patient care, research, and education. The MSL program is field-based and focuses on disease-state expertise, strategic communication, and feedback loops to inform Lilly’s research and commercialization direction. The role enables scientific exchange between industry and the scientific community to address important clinical and scientific questions.

Responsibilities

  • Scientific knowledge
    • Maintain the highest level of technical expertise through continuous learning.
    • Provide unbiased, accurate, up-to-date medical and scientific information in response to customer requests.
  • Customer engagement
    • Spend the majority of time on customer-facing activities.
    • Use emotional intelligence, strategic thinking, and customer understanding to deliver a positive experience.
    • Act as a primary interface between Lilly medical and SEs/CEs.
    • Connect SEs/CEs with appropriate internal resources and facilitate collaborative research and external opportunities.
  • Territory ownership
    • Use strategic analysis, planning, and prioritization to maximize efficiency.
    • Implement and evaluate a strategic territory plan and take accountability for results.
    • Ensure compliant partnerships across field roles sharing customers.
    • Use territory analytics for customer identification and routing prioritization.
  • Strategic vision and leadership
    • Synthesize and communicate actionable customer/clinical insights to internal medical and cross-functional teams.
    • Use good judgement and escalate issues as appropriate.
    • Cultivate internal networks and collaborate across functions.
    • Embrace change, exercise strategic agility, and use innovative resources.
  • Compliance and Team behaviors
    • Demonstrate Team Lilly behaviors with peers and colleagues.
    • Execute the role compliantly, adhering to governing internal/external requirements, procedures, and laws.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in health sciences (e.g., PharmD, MD, PhD) required (2-3 years of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience desired).
  • Masters or bachelor’s level degree in health sciences considered if 5+ years clinical, research, or industry experience in relevant therapeutic area is present.
  • Valid US driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis (no visa/work authorization sponsorship).

Additional skills/preferences

  • Oncology therapeutic area experience in Breast/Gynecology Oncology strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with patients in hospital or outpatient clinical setting strongly preferred.
  • Intellectual curiosity; ability to comprehend and communicate large amounts of scientific content clearly and concisely.
  • Significant direct experience servicing customer needs for complex information; ability to work with demanding or difficult clients.
  • Experience self-managing priorities and multi-tasking projects.
  • Strong teamwork/interpersonal skills; advanced presentation and computer skills.
  • Expertise in literature identification and evaluation.
  • Experience in professional networking; field-based environment experience valued.
  • Familiarity with academic community and medical research/medical education process valued.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Anticipated wage: $151,500 - $268,400. Full-time employees may also be eligible for a company bonus (depending on company and individual performance).
