Description

This position focuses on training and supporting phlebotomy and donor care work in a plasma center. You will help determine donor suitability, build rapport while maintaining donor confidentiality, and manage donor reactions. You will also operate automated plasmapheresis machines and ensure both donor health and product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in determining the suitability of donors
  • Establish rapport with donors to ensure customer happiness while ensuring donor confidentiality
  • Respond to and assist with handling donor reactions
  • Monitor donor and equipment to ensure the health of donors and quality of product
  • Set up, disconnect, and operate automated plasmapheresis machines
  • Disconnect and dispose of all contaminated disposable equipment

Occupational Demands

  • Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms
  • Exposure to electrical office and laboratory equipment
  • Exposure to extreme cold below 32°F while working in plasma freezer
  • Personal protective equipment required (protective eyewear, garments, gloves, cold-gear)
  • Work performed standing for 6 to 8 hours per day
  • Bending and twisting neck and waist for 1–2 hours per day
  • Frequent hand movement; fast, simple finger/hand/wrist movements
  • Precise coordinated movements of fingers for grasping and manipulating objects
  • Frequent foot movement; may squat, crouch, or sit on heels
  • Walk up to 6–8 hours per day
  • Light lifting of 15 lbs; maximum lift of 50 lbs
  • Reach below shoulder height
  • Hearing acuity essential
  • Color perception/discrimination and near/far vision requirements (correctable)
  • Comprehend and follow instructions to complete assigned tasks
  • Listen to and understand spoken information and ideas
  • Perform within guidance of oral or written instructions
  • Relate sensitive information to diverse groups
