Description

You will perform independent design assurance reviews of electrical engineering deliverables prepared by the EoR, OEMs, and major equipment suppliers for utility-scale CCGT projects. Responsibilities include reviewing electrical one-line/three-line diagrams, equipment specifications, load lists, cable schedules, grounding designs, raceway layouts, protection and control schemes, relay settings/coordination studies, short-circuit and load-flow studies, arc-flash studies, and vendor drawings. You will provide technical oversight of major plant electrical systems and interfaces and support RFIs, NCRs, constructability, MOC, turnover, energization, commissioning, synchronization, startup, and performance testing.

Responsibilities

  • Review one-line/three-line diagrams, equipment specifications, load lists, cable schedules, grounding designs, raceway layouts, protection/control schemes, relay settings/coordination studies
  • Review short-circuit, load-flow, and arc-flash studies; equipment layouts; vendor drawings; and other electrical deliverables
  • Provide technical oversight of plant electrical systems and interfaces (generators, bus, GSUs, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, large motors, VFDs, DC/UPS, emergency power, grounding, lightning protection, lighting, raceway/cable systems)
  • Evaluate interfaces among gas turbine/steam turbine generators, OEM electrical packages, switchyard/interconnection, protection/excitation/synchronization systems, and plant DCS/I&C systems
  • Review electrical capacity, redundancy, reliability, equipment ratings, auxiliary-load assumptions, and design margins
  • Review RFIs, technical queries, design deviations, field change notices, proposed scope changes; recommend owner-side technical acceptability, electrical safety/reliability/cost/schedule impacts, and corrective actions
  • Review NCRs and electrical installation/quality issues; evaluate EoR/contractor dispositions and support mitigation of deficiencies
  • Support constructability/installation reviews (cable routing, raceway congestion, access, grounding continuity, hazardous-area separation, maintainability, temporary/permanent power sequencing)
  • Support MOC evaluation of electrical scope changes and impacts to studies, ratings, protection settings, drawings, cable schedules, work packages, energization plans, costs, and schedule
  • Support turnover/energization/commissioning/synchronization/startup/performance testing by reviewing test procedures, boundaries, prerequisites, relay/protection testing, punch items, and readiness documentation
  • Coordinate across mechanical, civil/structural, I&C, construction, commissioning, project controls, commercial, and operations teams to resolve interface issues
  • Document design assurance findings; maintain technical issue/action logs; communicate electrical risks and recommendations; promote electrical safety by design

Benefits

  • Compensation range: $150,000 - $190,000 a year (varies by office location, role, skill set, and experience)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience supporting large capital projects in power generation or process industries (oil & gas, LNG, refining, chemicals, petrochemicals, or similar)
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing electrical engineering designs for large industrial facilities across engineering, procurement, construction, energization, and/or commissioning phases
  • Strong working knowledge of medium- and low-voltage power distribution, transformers, switchgear, motors, grounding, protection and control, DC/UPS systems, cable/raceway systems, and electrical equipment installation and testing
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA 70/NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and other relevant standards
  • Ability to read and critically evaluate one-lines, wiring/control diagrams, protection schemes, equipment specifications, electrical studies, vendor drawings, and engineering change documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate technical problems, develop practical recommendations, and communicate effectively with EoR engineers, contractors, OEMs, construction personnel, commissioning teams, and client stakeholders
  • Ability to perform field walkdowns/observations on foot across active construction areas and comply with PPE and site safety requirements

Bonus points to have

  • Direct engineering/design assurance/construction/commissioning experience on utility-scale CCGT or simple-cycle gas generation
  • Experience in an Owner’s Engineer/Owner’s Representative/EPCM/independent design assurance role
  • Experience reviewing EoR deliverables and managing technical interfaces across OEMs, EPC contractors, construction contractors, and owner teams
  • Experience with EPC/EPCM/multi-prime/owner-managed contracting models
  • Experience supporting constructability reviews, system turnover, commissioning, startup, and operational readiness
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification (as applicable)
