Director of Engineering — Finance Engineering

Senior • On-site

48,000 - 54,000 PLN/yr

Kraków, Poland

Every transfer must be recorded, reconciled, and reported with precision to maintain the trust of customers, auditors, and regulators. Finance Engineering supports this through systems for Accounting Product, Reconciliation, and the Finance Data Platform that turn every movement of money into a clean, auditable financial record.

The Director of Engineering for Finance Engineering will lead the function’s evolution from bespoke, internally built systems toward a data-centric architecture that integrates with best-in-class, off-the-shelf financial platforms. This function sits within Finance and reports through the Chief Accounting Officer.

You will set direction and architecture, develop managers and senior engineers, and remain close enough to the work to engage strong engineers as a peer. The role also includes designing for a future in which engineers work alongside AI agents and agents increasingly compose parts of the work directly.

Responsibilities

  • Own the multi-year strategy for Finance Engineering and translate Finance needs into a roadmap that teams can deliver on.
  • Lead the technology and architecture roadmap, including build-versus-buy decisions.
  • Maintain the reliability, correctness, and compliance standards for systems of record used by auditors and regulators; make consequential trade-off decisions.
  • Provide technical leadership for senior engineers, engage deeply on complex problems, and develop the managers who will lead the function.
  • Design the geographic workforce plan and drive hiring and succession.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of technical leadership experience, including 5+ years leading multiple teams within a domain.
  • History of building and operating financial, data, or large distributed systems relied upon by other teams and stakeholders. Experience with accounting, ledger, reconciliation, or payments systems is a strong advantage.
  • Technical depth to engage principal and staff engineers as a peer and step in on difficult problems.
  • Experience with engineering workforce planning and organization design across geographies, and judgment to run a healthy organization without excessive oversight.
  • Ability to hold a clear technical opinion with executives and connect business strategy with technical bets, including with non-technical Finance leadership.
  • A considered view of how an agentic, AI-assisted world affects finance systems and how to build for it.
  • Strong security and compliance judgment in a regulated industry, such as fintech, banking, or payments.

Compensation Details

The starting base salary range is typically PLN 576,000–PLN 648,000 gross per annum on UoP. Equity is part of the total compensation plan. Medical and other financial benefits and total compensation components are available.
