About the Role

Remitly is expanding beyond remittances into user wallets, stored balances, and other financial products. The User Financial Accounts (UFA) platform will serve as the source of truth for customer balances and provide the foundation for wallets, safeguarded fiat accounts, credit and lending products, promotions, and future financial offerings.

This is an opportunity to build the platform foundations as they go live, beginning with the UK and expanding into the EU and UAE. The team builds ledger primitives, correctness and consistency guarantees, and integrations for regulated financial products.

Description

As a Software Development Engineer, you will build and deliver features across the platform. You will work on well-scoped problems involving atomic money movement, ledger consistency, safeguarding, and idempotency under failure; contribute to technical design; and collaborate with teammates and partner teams to deliver production-ready work. You will report to a Kraków-based Engineering Manager and work with a senior, domain-focused team.

Responsibilities

  • Build and help design core UFA services and APIs that record, validate, and move customer money with strict correctness guarantees.
  • Solve distributed-systems challenges including consistency, atomicity across multi-step financial operations, idempotency, and graceful handling of partial failures.
  • Help launch new regulated markets by translating licensing and safeguarding requirements into platform capabilities, starting with the UK and expanding to the EU and UAE.
  • Deliver work from technical design through production readiness as part of larger cross-team initiatives.
  • Contribute to design decisions, balancing maintainability, reliability, and cost.
  • Collaborate with partner teams and, where relevant, external banking and payment partners.
  • Participate in design and code reviews and help improve team quality standards.
  • Partner with Product and Operations to clarify requirements, identify risks early, and deliver realistic plans.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in a backend language such as Java, Kotlin, or Go, with experience building scalable distributed systems.
  • Experience operating production systems in the cloud, such as AWS, including on-call rotations for high-availability services.
  • Solid understanding of relational and non-relational databases and data-modeling trade-offs at scale.
  • Strong judgment regarding correctness and operational risk.
  • Experience communicating updates and resolutions to customers and other partners, with the ability to collaborate across time zones.
  • B2+ English.
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Comfort using AI tools across the development lifecycle.

Nice to Have

  • Payments, fintech, or banking-platform experience, particularly with ledgers, wallets, or money movement.
  • Experience with regulated or compliance-sensitive systems, including safeguarding, PCI scope, or financial reporting.
  • Experience building multi-tenant platform services or shared infrastructure for multiple workloads.
  • Experience working directly with external banking partners, card networks, or payment processors.
  • Knowledge of observability and operational excellence for systems where downtime and inconsistency have financial consequences.

Compensation

The starting base salary range is typically PLN 245,000–275,000. Equity is part of the total compensation plan. Medical and other financial benefits are available.

Benefits

  • 26 days of paid holiday and additional company days off.
  • Equity through RSUs.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
  • Royalties (KUP).
  • Employee Pension Plan (PPK).
  • Open leave policy with flexible vacation days subject to manager approval.
  • Commuting-to-work expense coverage.
  • Health, dental, and coverage through LUX MED VIP for employees and families.
  • Life insurance.
  • Mental health and family planning benefits.
  • Continuing education.
  • Equipment of your choice.
