Description

The Healthcare Engineer plans projects, produces designs and specifications, and manages design and construction administration for minor construction, non-recurring maintenance (NRM), station level projects, and leases across a medical center and its associated CBOCs.

The role includes determining system requirements through reconnaissance, preparing estimates, providing professional guidance to technical and non-technical stakeholders, and supporting construction operations through scheduling, inspection, and surveillance.

Responsibilities

• Determine requirements, conduct reconnaissance and site location assessment, and prepare designs, specifications, and estimates using conventional engineering methods and standards
• Conduct investigations to develop improved design approaches, materials, and methods
• Provide professional advice to peers, subordinates, and administrators/managers
• Perform scheduling and layout of operations, including inspection and surveillance of materials, methods, and equipment used in construction
• Guide, develop, and coordinate planning, design, and oversight of maintenance projects

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship
• Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
• Proficiency in written and spoken English
• Subject to background/security investigation
• Complete online onboarding and pre-employment requirements; provide acceptable identification
• Pass a pre-employment physical
• Seasonal influenza vaccination is required for VA Health Care Personnel
• Education/license requirements: bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture (or FE exam passing, or current PE/Architect licensure)
• Grade-specific experience/education requirements for GS-07 to GS-12
