Description

Lead and shape the design system that powers the product experience across teams and a developer community. Treat the design system as a product—owning roadmap and success measures—while defining visual foundations, components, primitives, templates, and guidance that help AI-assisted builds start from strong defaults. Partner closely with front-end engineers to keep Figma, documentation, and code in sync and raise quality through standards, critique, documentation, and mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategy and execution for design-system areas using product needs, usage data, and technical constraints

• Define and evolve visual foundations: tokens, theming, color, typography, spacing, iconography, and motion

• Design and refine components and patterns (anatomy, states, variants, responsive behavior, edge and failure cases)

• Create primitives, templates, and starter kits to accelerate builds with AI tools

• Encode visual, interaction, content, and accessibility rules as documentation and machine-readable guidance for AI coding tools

• Partner with front-end engineers on token architecture, component APIs, and implementation fidelity

• Shape contribution, versioning, deprecation, and governance models to prevent fragmentation

• Guide product teams onto the system by studying how it’s used in what ships, then feed insights back into the roadmap

• Set standards for usability, accessibility, interaction quality, and visual consistency; mentor designers via critique and system reviews

• Drive innovation by staying ahead of emerging design and technology trends

• Collaborate across US, UK, and India time zones in a 100% remote environment

Requirements

• 7+ years of product design experience, including building or leading a multi-team design system

• Portfolio with at least one system-level case study covering role, architecture, governance, and measurable impact

• Advanced visual and interaction design craft (hierarchy, layout, typography, grids, spacing, motion, usability, accessibility)

• Expert command of Figma libraries/variables/modes/component properties and token pipelines for scalable systems across teams

• Deep fluency in front-end development to review implementation fidelity (HTML, CSS, React or Vue)

• Hands-on experience vibe coding prototypes with AI coding tools (Claude Code or Cursor) before production

• Deep WCAG knowledge and hands-on experience designing/testing accessible components

• Clear point of view on how design systems should support AI-assisted development, plus experience with AI-driven interfaces

• Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills (critiques, workshops, stakeholder persuasion with rationale and evidence)
