  • Focus: Electrical power distribution reliability, energy efficiency, 24/7 incident response, and safety/compliance

Description

As a Critical Environment Electrical Engineer, you will optimize core electrical infrastructure for online services by managing power distribution, UPS reliability, and electrical load balancing. You will lead 24/7 electrical incident response, execute root cause analyses, and drive capacity planning and energy monitoring using EPMS and PUE. The role also includes electrical safety/compliance, audits, site transition support, preventative maintenance oversight, change control participation, and training.

Responsibilities

  • Power Distribution Management: Develop strategies to improve energy efficiency and ensure stable, uninterrupted power (switchgear, transformers, power panels).

  • Incident Management: Primary technical lead for electrical-related issues within assigned buildings; provide rapid 24/7 response.

  • Root Cause Analysis: Develop, execute, and approve RCAs for electrical system failures; manage follow-up actions.

  • Availability & Capacity Planning: Oversee power distribution, validate deployment tools, and proactively plan capacity.

  • UPS Systems: Optimize UPS strategies to prevent downtime during power disruptions.

  • Electrical Load Balancing: Monitor and optimize power usage to prevent circuit overloads.

  • Over-Allocation Review/Approval: Perform and approve over-allocation reviews.

  • Energy Efficiency & Power Optimization: Implement high-efficiency solutions including power factor correction and renewable energy integrations.

  • Electrical Safety & Compliance: Ensure electrical systems meet industry standards and safety regulations.

  • Power Usage Monitoring & Reporting: Use EPMS to track energy consumption, PUE, and system efficiency in real time.

  • Emergency Power & Redundancy Planning: Maintain redundancy strategies for resilience.

  • Fault Analysis & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex electrical issues; perform regular inspections and assessments.

  • Annual Electrical Power Audit: Conduct power audits to identify single points of failure.

  • Collaboration: Work with mechanical engineers and site operations teams.

  • Site Transition Program (STP): Own site acceptance transitions, ensure punch list capture and closure.

  • Sensor & Meter Audits: Audit sensors/meters to identify calibration needs.

  • Seasonal Readiness: Prepare electrical systems for seasonal demand and optimize maintenance schedules.

  • End of Life (EOL) Management: Plan and execute lifecycle transitions for electrical equipment.

  • Preventative Maintenance Oversight: Supervise high-risk maintenance activities (e.g., battery discharge testing, switchgear isolations).

  • CAB Participation: Ensure compliance and procedural accuracy for electrical modifications.

  • Global/Regional Support & Procedures: Provide technical/admin data and perform procedure reviews; author technical procedures for critical work.

  • Utility Validation: Validate energy invoices against EPMS and metering data.

  • Drawings & TSBs: Maintain electrical schematics and execute Technical Service Bulletins based on risk/impact.

  • Training & Development: Lead electrical training and develop technical content to standardize team proficiency.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering (or related) with 1+ year technical engineering experience, or Bachelor’s degree (or related) with 2+ years technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience

  • Must meet Microsoft/customer/government security screening requirements

  • Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

  • Experience/qualification with electrical power system studies (short circuit coordination, arc flash analysis)

  • Experience/qualification with fault finding, diagnostics, and power quality measurement, including root cause analysis

Benefits

  • Career growth opportunities including rotation programs and professional certifications

  • Diversity & inclusion trainings and events
