Description

You will lead product designs for resilient, cost-effective electrical power distribution equipment used across AWS data centers. The role covers the full engineering lifecycle—from defining design requirements and developing/qualifying equipment to prototype validation, documentation updates, and field commissioning support. You’ll collaborate with global suppliers, manufacturers, and testing partners to improve uptime, reliability, scalability, and cost effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Collect customer input and define design requirements for product designs
• Lead new product design, development, and qualification for critical electrical power distribution equipment (e.g., medium voltage switchgear/transformers, low voltage switchgear, generators, busduct, transfer switches, power distribution cabinets)
• Develop Capex and Opex budgets with vendor development costs, prototyping, testing, and tooling needs
• Specify electrical equipment and components with global suppliers to improve supply chain resiliency
• Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC, and applicable federal/state/municipal building codes through appropriate testing
• Validate designs via prototype, pre-production, and first-of-kind builds; perform DFx and value engineering analysis and update documentation
• Support field engineering and commissioning teams in testing, validation, installation, operation, and performance
• Support manufacturing activities for new products across concurrent multi-location projects
• Lead within the product development team and partner with internal/external stakeholders (vendors, manufacturers, inspectors, testing labs, contractors)

Requirements

• 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities (data centers, power generation, or oil and gas)
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Experience researching new designs/technologies/construction methods for data center equipment/facilities
• Experience in commissioning
