Description

AWS is hiring a Product Design Electrical Engineer for the Electrical Products and Services (EPS) team. You will design, develop, and continuously improve resilient, cost-effective electrical power distribution products used across a rapidly expanding data center footprint.

You will lead product design and qualification of critical electrical infrastructure equipment (from medium-voltage through low-voltage distribution), validate designs through prototypes and first-of-kind builds, and support installation testing and commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Solicit customer input and define design requirements with internal partner teams

• Lead new product design, development, and qualification for critical electrical power distribution equipment, including medium voltage switchgear, transformers, low voltage switchgear, generators, busduct, transfer switches, power distribution cabinets, and related infrastructure

• Develop Capex and Opex budgets (development costs, prototyping, testing, and specialized tooling)

• Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify equipment/components and support tier 2–3 supply chain resiliency

• Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC, and applicable federal/state/municipal requirements and building codes via appropriate testing

• Validate designs through prototype, pre-production, and first-of-kind builds; perform DFx and value engineering analysis and update design and documentation

• Partner with field engineering and commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance

• Support manufacturing activities for new products on concurrent projects in multiple locations

• Provide leadership across internal and external product development teams

Requirements

• 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities (data centers, power generation, or oil and gas)

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment/facilities

• Experience in commissioning

• Willingness to travel up to 30% and support international projects as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license

• Experience with building codes and regulations for your region

• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production

• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
