Description

You will design, build, test, deploy, and operate production systems at scale for a next-generation search platform. The work includes document ingestion pipelines, retrieval/search query APIs for products and AI agents, and cloud infrastructure to keep the platform fast and reliable. You will own features end-to-end with strong observability, continuous shipping, and AI-assisted development.

Responsibilities

• Design and build platform services across document ingestion, search indexing, and query APIs

• Build reliable pipeline components (parsing, chunking, enrichment, indexing) with retries, dead-letter queues, and idempotent processing

• Provide self-service platform APIs for index lifecycle management and ingestion health monitoring

• Design retrieval interfaces with predictable contracts and explicit latency budgets suitable for LLM context windows

• Contribute to migrating from OpenSearch to Vespa, including schema migrations and zero-downtime index promotion

• Instrument retrieval for offline evaluation and LLM-as-judge quality grading

• Participate in on-call rotation and own incidents in your scope (triage, root cause, post-mortems, systemic fixes)

• Add logging, metrics, and distributed tracing; help define SLOs

• Reduce delivery friction (slow deployments, flaky tests, painful local workflows) using AI-assisted tools

• Mentor engineers; provide design authority within scope; collaborate with research and internal teams to productionize search and AI capabilities

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production backend or data infrastructure systems with end-to-end ownership

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience

• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Go, or equivalent

• Distributed systems fundamentals for designing resilient streaming/queue/data-store systems

• Hands-on experience with AWS and infrastructure as code

• Operational ownership including on-call, incident response, and observability

• Fluency with AI-assisted development tools and ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
