Description

Lead and build enterprise developer portal capabilities using the Backstage platform within an AWS-focused financial services environment. You will design, develop, customize, and enhance Backstage features and integrations, and deliver full-stack functionality across React front ends and Java backend services/APIs. You will also provide technical leadership for architecture, scalability, performance, and security.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance custom capabilities and integrations within the Backstage platform

• Build and maintain Backstage plugins, Software Catalog integrations, software templates, reusable components, and API extensions

• Configure and customize Backstage permissions and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)

• Develop modern front-end applications and components with React

• Design, develop, and maintain Java-based backend services, APIs, and integrations

• Integrate Backstage with databases, backend services, GitLab, and enterprise development tools

• Develop and support cloud-native applications and platform services in AWS

• Work with AWS services including EKS, ECS, IAM, networking, and cloud provisioning

• Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform

• Support CI/CD workflows, deployments, and software delivery processes

• Perform system-level analysis and troubleshoot to resolve defects

• Evaluate architecture for scalability, performance, security, and infrastructure fit

• Lead technical design discussions and provide architectural recommendations

• Establish Backstage and platform engineering best practices

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship; ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and security standards

Requirements

• Hands-on Backstage platform experience (mandatory)

• Strong React front-end development experience

• Strong Java backend development experience

• Experience developing and customizing Backstage plugins

• Strong understanding of Software Catalog, templates, permissions/RBAC, and reusable components

• Experience extending Backstage APIs and integrating with databases, backend services, and development tools

• AWS experience including EKS, ECS, IAM, networking, and cloud provisioning

• Terraform and Infrastructure as Code experience

• Experience with GitLab integrations and CI/CD workflows

• Knowledge of SDLC, unit testing, and enterprise application delivery

• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or equivalent)
