Description

You will own backend outcomes end-to-end—designing and implementing microservices and APIs that are tested and shipped to production reliably. The role emphasizes strong communication, spec-driven and AI-assisted development, and active ownership of what you deploy. You’ll also mentor engineers through constructive code reviews and feedback.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend microservices and APIs within established architectural patterns, and help evolve those patterns.

• Own services from code and tests through production deployment.

• Improve engineering practices through code reviews, increased test coverage, and identifying gaps in pipeline/operational readiness.

• Mentor junior and associate engineers via code reviews and pair work.

• Use spec-driven development and AI-assisted tooling as standard practice.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot for backend microservice development (REST APIs).

• Contract-first OpenAPI development experience.

• AWS EKS experience with packaging, deploying, and operating containerized services.

• Event-driven architecture experience with Kafka (or similar messaging platforms).

• Delivery pipeline experience: source control, CI/CD, containerization, automated testing.

• Observability experience: structured logs, distributed traces, and dashboard-based diagnosis.

• Database experience: query tuning, indexing, and selecting storage patterns.
