Description

Lead the technical design and delivery governance of high-scale commerce solutions on Shopify Plus. You will act as a principal technical advisor for enterprise clients, guiding architecture from discovery and blueprints through platform launch, integration, and continuous optimization. The role bridges business objectives with technical execution across Shopify Plus, headless frontends, and core enterprise systems.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable, secure, and resilient e-commerce architectures using Shopify Plus, middleware, and enterprise back-office platforms
• Define end-to-end integration patterns with REST/GraphQL APIs, webhooks, and asynchronous/event-driven message pipelines (e.g., message brokers, event hubs, iPaaS)
• Author architecture blueprints, technical specifications, sequence diagrams, and data flow models
• Guide technical decisions across Shopify ecosystem capabilities: Shopify Functions, Checkout UI Extensions, Shopify B2B, and Shopify Markets
• Establish standards for headless storefronts built on Hydrogen and Remix, including edge rendering (Shopify Oxygen), caching strategies, and Core Web Vitals
• Lead proof-of-concept (POC) builds and technical spikes to de-risk complex integrations and validate platform boundaries
• Run technical discovery workshops with C-level executives, enterprise architects, and engineering teams
• Assess non-functional requirements (security, concurrency, compliance, internationalization, platform rate limits)
• Evaluate total cost of ownership (TCO) and architectural trade-offs between native Shopify capabilities, custom apps, and third-party SaaS tools
• Partner with engineering leads to ensure implementation fidelity to blueprints, performance standards, and security guidelines
• Mentor technical leads and senior developers on Shopify best practices, API governance, and modern web application patterns
• Conduct architectural reviews and performance audits before major deployments

Requirements

• 6+ years in technical architecture or lead engineering roles within enterprise e-commerce, including 3+ years architecting on Shopify Plus
• Demonstrated experience integrating Shopify with core enterprise platforms (SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Akeneo, Salsify, Salesforce)
• Mastery of Shopify GraphQL Admin & Storefront APIs, API rate-limiting strategies, data migration patterns, and reliable webhook ingestion
• Strong technical grounding in Hydrogen, Remix, React, Node.js, and TypeScript, with deep expertise in SSR, edge caching, and web performance optimization
• Deep familiarity with Shopify extension frameworks (Shopify Functions, App Extensions, Custom Apps) and checkout customization
• Ability to translate complex architectural trade-offs to business stakeholders and collaborate effectively with distributed engineering teams
• English proficiency at Upper-Intermediate level (B2) or higher
