Description

Lead embedded firmware development and system-level debugging for silicon/SOC issues from bring-up through production fleet operation. Own complex investigations by correlating firmware logs, crash dumps, OS/driver traces, configuration, and fleet telemetry to isolate failure mechanisms. Build scalable analysis and automation (including AI-assisted approaches) to accelerate root-cause analysis at scale and drive mitigations and permanent fixes through verification.

Responsibilities

• Lead embedded firmware development, debug, and fixes for silicon/SOC issues
• Own complex investigations into firmware crashes, boot/reset failures, hangs, memory corruption, and hardware/software interaction issues
• Correlate firmware logs, silicon error records, crash dumps, OS/driver traces, configuration, and fleet telemetry
• Develop reproducible experiments and targeted diagnostic firmware or tooling to test hypotheses
• Build scalable analysis and triage automation, including failure bucketing, signature detection, cohort comparisons, and regression detection
• Apply statistical analysis and AI-assisted methods to prioritize investigations and validate results
• Drive mitigations and permanent fixes with component owners; verify effectiveness through regression testing and post-deployment telemetry
• Convert investigation findings into improved instrumentation, test coverage, troubleshooting guidance, and mentoring

Requirements

• Doctorate in a relevant field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience, or Master’s AND 4+ years, or Bachelor’s AND 5+ years (or equivalent experience)
• Ability to meet Microsoft/customer/government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check
• Ability to access export-controlled information and provide required proof of citizenship or U.S. residency/other protected status (passport verification required)

Benefits

• Base pay range (U.S.): USD $119,800–$234,700 per year
• Location-specific range examples: San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metro: USD $160,200–$261,000 per year
• May be eligible for benefits and other compensation
