Senior R&D Software Engineer

Senior • On-site

40,000 - 70,000 EUR/yr

Regensburg, BY, Germany

Quick Facts

  • Senior R&D role focused on firmware, sensor software, and optical sensing platforms

Description

Develop firmware and software for demanding sensor applications, including optical Time-of-Flight/LiDAR, spectrometers, and new detector technologies. Design and extend software solutions for sensor readout, monitoring, and control, build test setups with additional interfaces, and run automated software/system tests with strong reporting. Contribute to system engineering by defining specifications, modeling sensor physics and signal-processing algorithms, and supporting integration and characterization.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to product design from sensor physics through optical/mechanical aspects and application firmware integration
  • Develop and evolve firmware/software for optical sensor applications (ToF/LiDAR, spectrometers, new detector tech)
  • Design software for reading out, monitoring, and controlling sensor and qualification boards (modular approaches, datalogging, user interfaces)
  • Extend and maintain firmware, SDKs, and production-near software (calibration/offset functions, higher pixel support, version consolidation)
  • Build and expand test setups, including new interfaces (UART, SPI), current measurement, systematic debugging, and readiness for new platforms
  • Execute software and system tests including automation; produce meaningful test and development reports
  • Define system and software specifications based on customer requirements
  • Take on project management activities (work package definition, scheduling, status reporting)
  • Support measurement infrastructure definition and application testing, including electrical and optical characterization
  • Help define new ASIC concepts and perform system engineering with modeling of sensor physics and signal processing algorithms
  • Collaborate with suppliers, internal manufacturing, and contract manufacturing partners to define production processes
  • Create and maintain product documentation, specifications, and application notes

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mechatronics, or similar
  • Solid technical understanding of optical semiconductor design, sensor physics, processing, and production
  • Interest in sensor system design, including defining/implementing/testing software algorithms and potential to develop new architectures
  • Experience with embedded systems and software testing
  • Experience in application development and lab-test GUIs, ideally with Python and/or C++/C#
  • Laboratory experience in prototyping and electrical/optical measurements
  • Knowledge of optical metrology and integrating test setups
  • Strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration across electronics, optics, mechanics, and communications
  • Independent, precise working style and ability to integrate in teams across functions and locations
  • Very good English skills (spoken and written) and willingness to learn German

Benefits

  • Unbefristete Arbeitsverträge (permanent contract)
  • 30 days vacation
  • Working time account regulation
  • Employer-funded company pension
  • Individual trainings and regular feedback with an account manager
  • Opportunities for continuous development and career growth
