ROS Engineer

Senior • Remote

130 - 160 PLN/yr

Warsaw, Poland

Quick Facts

  • Role: ROS Engineer

  • Focus: Migration of a production ROS 1 stack to ROS 2 for an autonomous UGV

  • Work setup: 100% remote, with online presence 15:00–18:00 CET

Description

Join a team responsible for developing an autonomous ground vehicle (UGV). The main goal is to migrate an existing, deployed field platform from ROS 1 to ROS 2 while preserving vehicle behavior and integrating with sensors, CAN bus, GNSS, and high-level autonomy logic. Work includes refactoring ROS interfaces and building reliable control, navigation, mission behavior, localization, and communication tuning.

Responsibilities

  • Migrate and refactor ROS components (nodes, packages, services, actions, TF trees) from ROS 1 to ROS 2 while following strong C++/Python engineering practices

  • Rework vehicle actuation and control interfaces (steering and braking) using ros2_control and control_toolbox

  • Adapt navigation stack to Nav2 (planners, costmaps, lifecycle nodes) and integrate mission logic based on BehaviorTree / BehaviorTree.CPP

  • Integrate and validate localization using GNSS, IMU, odometry, and CAN bus via robot_localization

  • Optimize communications by configuring DDS/QoS for low latency and stable synchronization across telemetry, control, and diagnostics

  • Implement field navigation path planning solutions (e.g., Fields2Cover)

  • Run regression tests using recorded rosbag data, logs, and validation in simulation and on the physical vehicle; use Foxglove for diagnostics and visualization

  • Collaborate closely with the customer robotics team, document architectural decisions, and share ROS 2 knowledge

Requirements

  • Very strong C++ (17/20) and solid Python skills in a Linux environment

  • Practical knowledge of ROS 1 and ROS 2 and understanding of architectural differences (lifecycle, executors, DDS/QoS)

  • Experience with ros2_control, Nav2, BehaviorTree, and robot_localization

  • Experience integrating CAN bus, GNSS receivers, IMU, and real vehicle actuators/control systems

  • Ability to analyze latency, time synchronization, and debug using Foxglove, rosbag, and system indicators

  • English level at least B2/C1 for technical communication and creating documentation

Benefits

  • 100% remote work with flexible hours; required online presence between 15:00 and 18:00 CET

  • Opportunity to contribute to a technologically advanced robotics project with real impact on physical machines

  • Access to advanced hardware, test setups, and simulators

  • Stable long-term employment with an expert team
