Description

Lead an exceptional software engineering team to build and run Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (MSK), a fully managed Kafka service that helps customers process streaming data at scale. You will work across the MSK stack—from service APIs/workflows to the core Kafka platform and operational tools—while ensuring upstream compatibility and contributing changes back to open source. You will also design new features, improve performance, investigate new technologies, and drive AWS-only capabilities and integrations across a complete end-to-end streaming stack.

Responsibilities

• Recruit and grow technical staff

• Own the software development lifecycle and service operational metrics

• Partner with product managers to define and execute the product roadmap

• Contribute to open source and present at community events

• Design and build new features and scalable services

• Identify and investigate new technologies and prototype solutions

• Test and review changes to deliver an exceptional customer experience

• Lead net-new AWS capabilities beyond open source (e.g., native integrations, differentiated managed-service economics, engine-level capabilities)

• Drive greenfield programs to rethink managed streaming infrastructure for cloud scale

• Build capabilities that span ingestion and stateful stream processing across MSK and Amazon MSF (Managed Service for Apache Flink)

Requirements

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience

• 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams

• 3+ years designing or architecting new and existing systems (design patterns, reliability, scaling)

• 8+ years leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services

• Knowledge of end-to-end software/hardware/networks development life cycle (coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, certification, live-site operations)

• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
