Solution Delivery Competence Lead

Description

You will lead the development of Solution Delivery competence and methodology from day one, delivering a couple of lighthouse fixed-price projects first to prove what should be codified. Over time, your focus shifts from personally delivering to building scalable competence across the organization. Success means other project managers can deliver on time and on budget with GenAI built in, supported by proven templates and blueprints.

Responsibilities

• First month: Map existing internal solution-based delivery practices, artifacts, and processes; produce keep/next decisions as a deliverable.

• First 6–12 months: Lead one or two solution projects (typically $500K–$1M) as lighthouse engagements, owning estimation validation, commercial framing, planning and baseline, scope management, core staffing readiness, project P&L (committed cost and margin), assumptions/dependencies/risk management, and governance (cadence, metrics, reporting, escalation) plus AI-driven delivery and PM process optimization.

• Transition: Once the delivery model is established and a capable replacement is ready, hand the project over (not expected to own permanently).

• In parallel: Build and scale competence—create a PM Task Force, own the Solution Delivery Runbook, gather and pilot practices from real projects, and turn them into reusable estimation models, staffing patterns, governance templates, tools, and accelerators.

• Drive AI adoption: Ensure every new solution project starts with a proven delivery model rather than inventing one from scratch.

• Advisory throughout: Projects in crisis (diagnose and provide a plan with a named owner, without taking over); pre-sale delivery-side validation in close cooperation with the Solution Leader.

Requirements

• Delivered solution-based or fixed-price software projects end-to-end with personal accountability for scope, timeline, and profitability.

• Led complex multi-million-dollar engagements (preferred $5M+ project or program experience).

• Set projects up before kickoff: estimation, staffing calibration, governance, and client reporting cadence.

• Technical enough to challenge estimates or technical proposals on substance.

• Experience working in a services/outsourcing company with external paying clients.

• Hands-on use of AI tools and accelerators in a real delivery context; clear perspective on impact to estimation, progress reporting, and verification.

• Willing to hand a project over and leave it repeatedly.

• Open to codifying what already works internally (not starting from zero).

• Ability to balance bid/lead-winning outcomes with a structured delivery approach.
