Description

You will advise on the right database choice for applications and set up, configure, and operate database platforms—preferably on Microsoft Azure. You will administer and improve databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle) both on-premises and in Azure, including installation, configuration, patch management, monitoring, performance analysis, and troubleshooting. The role also supports high availability with backup/recovery strategies and helps drive migrations and modernization toward Azure.

Responsibilities

• Advise on selecting the right database technology for specific applications

• Set up and configure databases, preferably on Microsoft Azure

• Operate, administer, and further develop databases (PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle) on-premises and in Azure

• Install, configure, and manage database patching

• Monitor, analyze, and optimize performance of existing database landscapes

• Ensure high availability and implement backup and recovery strategies

• Diagnose and resolve incidents during live operations (troubleshooting)

• Support migrations and modernization efforts toward Azure

• Consult developers and business teams on database-related topics

Requirements

• Experience with Azure Data Services (Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB)

• Experience administering database systems (PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle)

• Experience with monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting

• Knowledge of backup, recovery, and security concepts

• Understanding of database architectures and data modeling

• Ideally initial experience with cloud technologies (Microsoft Azure)

• Structured, solution-oriented working style and enjoyment of operating stable, high-performing systems

• Knowledge of automation (scripting, Infrastructure as Code)

• Nice to have: experience with data integration or ETL processes (Azure Data Factory)

• Strong German and English skills
