Description

You will plan, install, configure, and operate Linux servers and Linux-based systems, ensuring availability, performance, and reliable operations. You will manage regular system and security updates, support application software and system services, and handle troubleshooting in server and infrastructure environments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, install, configure, and bring Linux servers and Linux-based systems into operation
  • Perform regular system updates, security updates, and upgrades
  • Install, configure, and maintain application software and system services
  • Configure and monitor firewalls
  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize system performance and ensure availability
  • Diagnose and resolve failures in server and infrastructure environments
  • Manage and maintain virtual environments
  • Automate recurring administration and operational tasks with scripts
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and operating instructions
  • Support planning and implementation of IT infrastructure projects
  • Implement security policies and support backup and recovery concepts
  • Collaborate with internal specialist departments

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or qualification as IT specialist for system integration or application development
  • Multi-year practical experience administering Linux systems (e.g., Debian, Ubuntu, Red Hat, Rocky Linux or comparable)
  • Very good knowledge of installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Linux servers
  • Experience with system updates, upgrades, and patch management
  • Solid knowledge of automating administration tasks
  • Proficient with shell scripting, especially Bash
  • Good programming/scripting skills in Python
  • Experience with network and common server services (DNS, DHCP, web server, databases, SNMP, Samba, NFS)
  • Knowledge in IT security, monitoring, and backup and recovery procedures
  • Experience with virtualization platforms Proxmox VE / KVM / Qemu
  • Experience with hardware- and software-based firewalls
  • Knowledge of Perl and/or PHP
  • Experience with configuration and automation tools (e.g., Saltstack, Ansible)
  • Knowledge of containers and container technologies (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with high-availability and cluster solutions
  • Structured, independent, and solution-oriented working approach
  • High motivation and sense of responsibility
  • Analytical thinking and strong problem-solving skills
  • Team orientation and good communication skills
  • Willingness for continuous training in the Linux and infrastructure environment
  • German and English at negotiation-proof level (C2)
