Description
Own the full electrical design lifecycle for complex spaceflight hardware—from early concept and requirements through schematic capture, layout, bring-up, test, and manufacturing handoff. Work cross-functionally with RF, mechanical, software, FPGA/SoC, and operations teams to deliver high-reliability, space-ready electronics for orbit. Guide electrical engineering on special topics, run design reviews, and ensure verification readiness.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end electrical design lifecycle for complex spaceflight PCBA (concept of operations, requirements engineering, schematic capture, layout, bring-up, test, manufacturing handoff)
- Develop robust analog/digital designs under environmental and performance constraints
- Organize cross-disciplinary design reviews and collaborate to shape solutions
- Provide critical input to schedule planning, hardware requirements, and process improvements
- Lead board-level bring-up and debugging; integrate firmware/software/FPGA with embedded systems
- Define test plans and verification strategies aligned with flight readiness requirements
- Support scaling up manufacturing from prototype to low-volume production
- Collaborate with mechanical, RF, software, FPGA/SoC, and systems teams to ensure integration
- Mentor early-career engineers and improve internal processes
- Work with external vendors and CMs; resolve DFM/DFT issues and ensure on-time delivery quality
- Drive failure analysis and root-cause investigations across flight or test anomalies
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
- 8+ years of experience designing and debugging PCBA
- Proficiency in Altium Designer (or similar ECAD tools)
- Hands-on lab instrument experience (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, etc.)
- Solid understanding of digital buses: I2C, SPI, UART, RS422, CAN, USB, PCIe, Ethernet
- Familiarity with board bring-up, test planning, and design verification workflows
- Experience interacting with contract manufacturers, supporting DFM reviews, and resolving production issues
- Strong documentation habits and organizational skills
- U.S. Person eligibility for export-control compliance (ITAR)
