Description

Own and grow a technology portfolio advancing mechanical engineering for durability-focused structural mechanics across Power, Wind, and Electrification—covering mechanical design, inspection technologies, and advanced manufacturing. Lead early-stage technical development from first concept through successful transition to the businesses, and develop multi-generational technology roadmaps aligned to product and manufacturing goals. Serve as a strategic link across Advanced Research, business units, and external partners (including U.S. government agencies) while representing research capabilities in the scientific and energy community.

Responsibilities

Own & Grow the Technology Portfolio

  • Build and manage a robust portfolio of research programs in mechanical engineering (mechanical design, inspection technologies, advanced manufacturing)
  • Lead early-stage technology development from concept through transition to businesses
  • Develop multi-generational technology roadmaps for a multi-year structural mechanics strategy
  • Partner with Chief Engineers, Chief Scientists, and Senior Principal Engineers to align durability and structural mechanics strategy with product and manufacturing goals

Drive Strategy Through Collaboration

  • Align Advanced Research vision with business units via Technology Director and Mission Leaders
  • Coordinate disruptive technology efforts and ensure integration into long-term product and technology plans
  • Establish and maintain external relationships with government agencies, national labs, academic institutions, and industry partners

Lead, Develop & Inspire Your Team

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of technologists and researchers
  • Recruit and retain exceptional engineers and scientists
  • Provide coaching, career development, and structured growth opportunities
  • Drive adoption of Lean principles, project/program management best practices, and operational discipline

Execute with Operational Excellence

  • Ensure safety, quality, and compliance across programs
  • Own resource planning balancing organizational priorities with researcher development goals
  • Drive accountability for project execution in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
  • Manage financial stewardship including budget oversight and investment prioritization

Requirements

  • Education: PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related with minimum 6 years relevant experience; or Master’s with minimum 10 years relevant experience
  • Technical Expertise: 5+ years hands-on experience leading technical programs or R&D in mechanical design, inspection technologies, advanced manufacturing, or related discipline
  • People Leadership: Proven direct management experience leading teams of 3+ engineers or scientists with demonstrated ability to develop talent and build high-performing organizations
  • Eligibility Requirements: Legal authorization to work in the U.S.; not eligible for immigration or visa sponsorship
  • Eligibility Requirements: Must be a “U.S. person” under U.S. export control laws (access to export-controlled information/technology required)
  • Eligibility Requirements: Willing to work onsite at GE Vernova Advanced Research, Niskayuna, NY (onsite essential)
