Physician - Pediatric Nephrologist, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, Grand Rapids, MI (0.5FTE)

Job Description

This is a part-time, 0.5 FTE position.

An additional part-time Pediatric Nephrologist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level is sought to join an expanding, collaborative Division of Pediatric Nephrology. The opportunity offers practice within a comprehensive, academically engaged program focused on patient- and family-centered care, innovation, education, and research.

Position Overview

This is a full-time faculty position with a balanced mix of inpatient, outpatient, academic, and leadership opportunities. Candidates with leadership interest and experience may be considered for a Medical Director role in either Pediatric Dialysis or Pediatric Kidney Transplantation, based on expertise and programmatic fit.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Full-time clinical role with inpatient and consult coverage every fourth week.
• When not on inpatient service, 5–6 half-day clinics per week, with opportunities for outreach clinics and telemedicine.
• Practice in a multidisciplinary care model supported by dedicated clinic and dialysis nurses, transplant coordinators, social workers, dietitians, pharmacists, and research coordinators.
• Access to advanced nephrology therapies and procedures, including acute and chronic hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), plasmapheresis and lipid apheresis, kidney transplantation, and aquapheresis (coming soon).

Academic and Educational Environment

• Academic appointment through Michigan State University.
• Active participation in pediatric resident education and medical student teaching.
• A Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship is anticipated to launch in 2027, creating opportunities for faculty mentorship, curriculum development, and scholarly leadership.
• Ongoing quality-improvement and research participation in CKiD, CureGN, CTOT-41, NINJA, NAPRTCS, IROC, and SCOPE.

Leadership Opportunities

Qualified candidates may be considered for a Medical Director role in Pediatric Dialysis or Pediatric Kidney Transplantation. These roles offer protected administrative time, programmatic leadership, and the opportunity to shape regional and national impact within a growing children's hospital transplant and dialysis enterprise.

Qualifications

• Required Bachelor's Degree.
• Physician (MD) or (DO) with Michigan Medical License.
• Board eligible or board certified in Pediatric Nephrology.
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification.

About the Practice Environment

The hospital is a 243-bed, freestanding tertiary care children's hospital and Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. It provides comprehensive care to a diverse, medically complex population, including pediatric and cardiac ICU patients; kidney and bone marrow transplant recipients; neurosurgical and trauma patients; and patients supported by an active cardiac and non-cardiac ECMO program. Care is delivered through a resident-led model with strong subspecialty collaboration.
