What’s the job?

Role Purpose

The Data Designer supports the business by deciding what data should be ingested from source systems into the Enterprise Data Warehouse and how it should be transformed for reporting and other downstream systems.

The role is accountable for:

• Analysing and documenting source-system data to meet business requirements
• Determining the method and frequency for ingesting data into the data warehouse
• Defining and documenting data mapping, harmonisation, derivations, calculations and other transformations
• Ensuring the target data model is coherent and works with other data warehouse models

Responsibilities

• Design data warehouse solutions driven by business demand
• Understand straightforward solution requirements and clarify them with the business where necessary
• Identify and document required data sources; analyse and profile their data
• Work with source-system and business experts to understand how business processes create and update data
• Create and maintain logical and physical data models, aligned with the data roadmap and principles
• Create and update source-to-target mappings; define transformations and calculations; capture metadata, including attribute definitions, datatypes and PII classification
• Support Data Engineers with implementation of designs
• Support Quality Engineers with testing of data warehouse objects

Required skills

• Intermediate-level SQL querying
• Strong attention to detail
• Proactive and curious mindset
• Collaborative approach to work
• 2 years’ experience working with data in data warehouses, or 5 years’ experience working with MI/BI data

Desirable experience

• Data profiling
• ETL processes
• Data quality management
• Data lifecycle management
• Working with data in Databricks
