IT System Engineer - Backup

Division: Group Technology Services (GTS)

The Virtual Infrastructure Services team delivers virtualized computing services for internal platforms, office and business applications through converged and hyperconverged infrastructure.

About the role

Join the Infrastructure Services team to manage, support and evolve the Cohesity Backup platform, storage solutions (file, S3) and Mobius archiving solutions in a 24/7 production environment. A primary goal is to design and build automated backup-infrastructure solutions that reduce manual effort and improve team efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical authority and domain owner for backup and data-protection services.
• Install, configure and maintain infrastructure technologies; keep software and hardware components current and operational.
• Develop solutions from business and technical requirements.
• Develop project architecture and designs.
• Build effective relationships with key IT experts.
• Implement and use monitoring tools to maintain availability and performance; perform system audits and capacity planning.
• Collaborate with development teams and IT staff to support infrastructure needs and maintain system and procedure documentation.
• Implement infrastructure security best practices, including patch management, antivirus solutions and vulnerability assessments.
• Support automation of recurring activities and propose harmonization of existing automation developments.
• Participate in day-to-day service support, including incidents, alerts and changes.
• Provide on-call support outside business hours as part of a 24/7 watch duty.
• Participate in disaster-recovery management for virtual infrastructure, including RDR, SWAP and LDR.
• Provide consulting to OS teams (Windows, Linux, Office, Tandem and Mainframe), projects and other customers.
• Support the organization’s private-cloud strategy.
• Guide and mentor engineers and serve as an escalation point for complex technical issues.
• Coordinate with the Product Owner, Solution Architects and other teams and tribes.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of experience in service engineering or service operations.
• Excellent backup-platform knowledge, including at least 2 years of Cohesity experience in large IT environments.
• Strong understanding of regular backup and restore testing in line with DORA requirements.
• Hands-on knowledge of backup and restore processes, including audit and compliance aspects.
• Good knowledge of storage platforms, including S3 and file solutions, with at least 2 years of storage-solution experience in large IT environments.
• Good knowledge of Nutanix and/or VMware virtualization management.
• Good knowledge of hyperconverged and/or converged infrastructure.
• Passion for automation and DevOps.
• Knowledge and experience with Ansible, Tower, PowerShell or Terraform.
• Storage-infrastructure management experience is a plus.

• Fluent English; French or Dutch is a plus.
• Experience working in an Agile context.
• Hands-on, analytical and collaborative approach.
• Ability to diagnose system problems quickly and restore functionality.
• Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations, meet strict deadlines and handle complex situations.
