nGP Operations Manager, Global Server Operations

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience managing technical teams in charge of installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, or maintaining hardware servers and their components.
  • Experience in site-level data center operational leadership.
  • Experience in a people management, supervision, or team leadership role.
  • Experience with different operating systems (e.g. Linux) and developing network architecture.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and shift-based schedules as required.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working in data center environments, including building and operating large-scale infrastructure; network and compute architecture and lifecycle; and Linux/Unix system administration.
  • Experience initiating and executing strategic initiatives in a global environment.
  • Experience leading operations in a 24x7 environment.
  • Track record of leading and improving Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives.
  • Ability to implement and drive the safety culture at the site while fostering a collaborative team environment.

About the job

The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring physical infrastructure supporting search technology. As a Hardware Operations Manager, you will manage a team of Data Center Technicians, oversee quality installation of server hardware and components, and lead complicated installations and troubleshooting.

Your team will install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware, including servers and their components, and server software, including a Linux cluster. The team will also configure complex network components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols; may lead small project teams on larger installations; and develop project contingency plans.

The Technical Infrastructure team develops and maintains data centers and builds platforms that support the product portfolio. The team keeps networks running to provide a fast, reliable user experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage operations staff, including Operations Managers and Technicians, across non-Google Production (nGP) facilities to maintain high operational standards.
  • Facilitate nGP capacity delivery needs by successfully executing multiple simultaneous infrastructure projects across different locations.
  • Own project delivery timelines, ensuring On-Time Delivery (OTD) of nGP initiatives while setting and monitoring robust Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
  • Coordinate stakeholder relationships across internal teams, cross-functional partners, and external vendors to set deliverables, align expectations, and track parallel efforts.
  • Identify and mitigate roadblocks by partnering closely with team members to resolve process bottlenecks and communication breakdowns.
