Minimum qualifications

  • Experience performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment.
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
  • Ability to lift/move 50 lb (23 kg) of equipment and exert yourself physically over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and shift-based schedules as required.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Completion of the online Google IT Support Professional Certificate program.
  • 2 years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
  • Experience performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on IT equipment or in a similar role, such as Systems Administration, Network Deployment Engineer, or Help Desk Technician.
  • Experience working in a data center or network operations center environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with teams to overcome challenges and adapt to changes in a dynamic work environment.

About the job

As an Operations Technician, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware, including servers and their components, as well as server software such as a Linux cluster. You will configure more complex components, including networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols.

You will participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. The role includes manual movement and installation of racks and can be physically demanding.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or functions.
  • Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose straightforward equipment or infrastructure issues, applying the resources needed to resolve identified issues.
  • Maintain data security and integrity; track media for standard data-security issues, such as data not being properly erased, in accordance with security standards.
  • Disassemble end-of-life equipment through part replacement or maintenance in a team setting.
  • Repair, fix, and perform preventive maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues, defined solutions, and limited guidance.
