Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and operationally focused Production Manager to lead and coordinate daily fabrication operations at our pipe fabrication facility. This role is the operational hub of the shop—translating project priorities into executable production schedules, bridging communication between Project Managers and the shop floor Superintendent, and ensuring the right materials are allocated and ready to support spool release and fabrication sequences.
The Production Manager owns the rhythm of the shop. Success in this role means spools move through fabrication in the right order, material shortages are resolved before they impact the floor, shipping commitments are met, and Project Managers have accurate, real-time visibility into fabrication status.
Key Responsibilities
Production Scheduling & Spool Prioritization
- Develop and maintain the master fabrication schedule based on project delivery dates and installation milestones.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and the Superintendent to coordinate daily and weekly shop floor assignments.
- Monitor production throughput, identify bottlenecks, and adjust sequencing to maintain delivery commitments.
Project Manager & Shop Floor Liaison
- Serve as the operational interface between Project Managers and shop operations.
- Provide fabrication status updates, material readiness information, and projected release dates.
- Manage the impact of scope changes, hold releases, and material delays on schedules.
Shipping & Delivery Coordination
- Develop and manage outbound shipping schedules aligned with field installation sequences.
- Coordinate pickups and deliveries with carriers, vendors, and logistics resources.
- Maintain shipping documentation including packing lists, weld traceability records, and MTR packages.
Receiving & Material Inventory Management
- Track inbound material status and ensure materials are available prior to spool release.
- Maintain material allocation records and identify shortages before they affect production.
- Coordinate procurement priorities and vendor lead times with Project Managers and purchasing teams.
ERP & Production Data Management
- Utilize MRP software such as Odoo to manage spool release status, labor tracking, and production progress.
- Maintain accurate production records and reporting data.
- Support continuous improvement in ERP utilization and production data processes.
Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Support compliance with OSHA standards, safety policies, and PPE requirements.
- Coordinate with Quality Control to ensure inspections and NDE documentation are complete.
- Track KPIs including spool completion, shipping accuracy, and schedule adherence.
Team Coordination & Workforce Communication
- Facilitate production meetings and align teams on critical path work.
- Coordinate issue resolution across Project Management, Engineering, QC, and Procurement.
- Promote accountability and continuous improvement across fabrication operations.
Qualifications & Skills
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Industrial Technology, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of production planning, scheduling, or operations coordination experience.
- Experience in pipe fabrication, mechanical contracting, or industrial manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of pipe fabrication workflows including welding, NDE, hydrostatic testing, and shipping documentation.
- Experience with ERP/MRP software such as Odoo or Stratus.
- Ability to read isometric drawings, spool sheets, and fabrication documentation.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
