Role Overview
The Chief Data Officer (CDO) is a senior executive responsible for the organization's data strategy, governance, and utilization. This role ensures that data is treated as a strategic asset, driving business value, innovation, and informed decision-making across the enterprise. The CDO oversees data management, analytics, privacy, and data-driven transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Data Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive enterprise data strategy aligned with business objectives
- Serve as the organization's thought leader on data, analytics, and AI
- Promote a data-driven culture across all departments
Data Governance & Quality
- Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, policies, and standards
- Ensure data quality, integrity, consistency, and accessibility
- Oversee data stewardship and lifecycle management
Analytics & Business Intelligence
- Lead advanced analytics, reporting, and business intelligence initiatives
- Enable predictive and prescriptive analytics to support strategic decisions
- Partner with business units to identify data-driven opportunities
Data Architecture & Infrastructure
- Collaborate with IT to design scalable data platforms and architectures
- Oversee data integration, warehousing, and cloud data initiatives
- Ensure systems support current and future business needs
Privacy, Security & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)
- Work closely with legal, risk, and cybersecurity teams
- Mitigate risks related to data usage and storage
Innovation & Transformation
- Drive innovation through AI, machine learning, and emerging technologies
- Identify new revenue streams or efficiencies through data monetization
- Lead digital transformation initiatives involving data
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with C-suite leaders to align data initiatives with business goals
- Communicate insights and strategy to executive leadership and the board
- Build strong cross-functional partnerships
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Business, or related field (Master's or MBA preferred)
- 12+ years of experience in data management, analytics, or related roles
- Proven leadership experience in a senior data or technology role
- Strong understanding of data governance, data architecture, and analytics
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern data tools
- Knowledge of data privacy and regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale transformation initiatives
Compensation
The expected annual salary for this position is between $225,000 and $275,000 at the start of employment. In addition to base salary, the total rewards package includes eligibility for an annual bonus, medical, pharmacy, dental, and vision plans, life and disability insurance, employee wellness program, retirement and savings plans with employer contributions, generous holiday and paid time off schedules, parental leave, and tuition reimbursement.
