Application, Geospatial & AI Development

  • Develop and maintain containerized Python/Django applications.
  • Build geospatial data ingestion and processing workflows for raster and vector data (e.g., GeoJSON, Shapefile, Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF) and load into Cloud SQL/PostgreSQL/PostGIS with performance strategies like bulk upload, chunking/batching, and spatial indexing.
  • Support map layer and tile delivery and integration with desktop GIS clients such as QGIS and Esri.
  • Develop scalable data pipelines using Databricks and standard ETL practices.
  • Integrate generative AI models into natural-language interfaces for geospatial/environmental data.
  • Build backend services and pipelines for model training, inference, and deployment using Vertex AI.
  • Ensure Responsible AI governance and observability; benchmark accuracy, response time, latency, and cost.
  • Design and deliver priority workflows supporting major environmental initiatives.

Collaboration with Corporate Technology

  • Partner with solutions/data engineering on solution architecture, requirements, design decisions, and technical standards.
  • Work with Platform Engineering for Harness-based DevOps/CI/CD, infrastructure deployment, security, authentication, and platform services.
  • Contribute to and consume Terraform Infrastructure as Code repositories and coordinate infrastructure/access early.
  • Follow corporate security patterns including SSO, service accounts, IAM roles, VPC connectivity, Cloudflare access, and secure third-party data ingestion.
  • Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and production readiness/hardening.
  • Apply cross-cloud awareness (Google Cloud primary; Azure and potentially AWS).

Documentation, Standards & Leadership

  • Maintain system and API documentation, architecture diagrams, and runbooks.
  • Mentor less experienced developers and provide guidance to staff.
  • Adhere to QA/QC processes and comply with company and site safety policies and standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
