Description

As a Senior Engineer on the Circle Card team, you help create a seamless guest experience for Circle Card applications, aiming for fast Approve/Decline decisions and higher successful application rates. You’ll design and build robust, scalable backend services and production AI-powered systems, lead architecture and code/design reviews, and improve operational reliability and observability. The role also uses AI-assisted development tools and applies responsible AI practices.

Responsibilities

• Use AI-assisted development tools across solution design, implementation, testing, debugging, documentation, and code reviews
• Collaborate effectively with AI coding assistants/enterprise AI platforms while maintaining code quality, security, architecture, and maintainability
• Validate AI-generated code and recommendations through testing, peer reviews, and established engineering practices
• Design, build, and deploy production AI applications and autonomous/agentic AI systems
• Develop domain-specific AI agents and multi-agent workflows
• Implement prompt engineering and context engineering strategies
• Build Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions using enterprise knowledge sources and vector/semantic retrieval
• Optimize AI applications for quality, latency, throughput, token utilization, and inference cost
• Implement AI evaluation frameworks and apply responsible AI best practices (security, privacy, governance, observability)
• Lead design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of services
• Lead code review, design review, testing, and debugging at the application level
• Lead functional design and architecture discussions using process flows and system diagrams
• Drive construction, automation, and implementation work aligned with architectural and operational requirements
• Provide technical oversight, coach engineers on complex issues, and lead disaster recovery activities
• Embed data quality protocols across data acquisition, processing, storage, and operational use

Requirements

• 4 years of degree or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of software engineering experience building enterprise-scale applications and backend systems
• Hands-on experience designing and deploying production AI applications, AI-powered tools, or agentic systems using modern Large Language Models (LLMs)
• Experience building autonomous or multi-agent workflows using frameworks such as Model Context Protocol (MCP), LangGraph, LangChain, CrewAI, Google ADK, Semantic Kernel, or equivalent
• Strong understanding of AI application architecture (prompt engineering, context engineering, RAG, tool calling, memory management, orchestration patterns, AI evaluation)
• Experience optimizing AI applications for quality, latency, token efficiency, and inference cost while implementing responsible AI governance and observability
• Proficiency in Python
• Expert proficiency in Kotlin and Java; experience building microservices with Micronaut and/or Spring Boot
• Strong experience designing distributed systems and RESTful/event-driven architectures (Kafka), plus PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD pipelines
• Experience building secure, highly available, resilient, and observable production services
• Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills (mentoring and leading design discussions)
