• Role: Principal Software Engineer (Azure Hardware Health Service)

Description

Design, implement, and operate global scalable cloud services that monitor hardware health and help predict anomalies and pending failures for Azure. Work on large-scale, low-latency, high-throughput systems and apply AI technologies (e.g., LLM/SLM/embeddings and RAG-style architectures) to improve firmware/hardware outcomes. Operate as a live service DRI within SLA, integrate telemetry, and drive continuous improvement using RCA.

Responsibilities

• Develop and operate large scale, low latency, high throughput systems.
• Evaluate AI technologies and architectures for firmware/hardware improvement.
• Specify or implement AI platform improvements like fine-tuning or training custom ML models.
• Drive continuous improvement based on Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and identified opportunities.
• Contribute to data analysis and feedback integration for product engineering decisions; act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) for monitoring and restoring system functionality within SLA timeframe.
• Participate in live service operations; support telemetry data integration for performance, reliability, and safety insights.
• Support dependency identification and design documentation; contribute to architectural processes under guidance.
• Produce code to test hypotheses and assist with technical validation.
• Collaborate on quality assurance plans, augment test cases, and integrate automation into testing with security and compliance implications in mind.
• Ensure compliance with security, privacy, safety, and accessibility standards; contribute to automation in production and deployment.
• Define and measure success/impact of requested analytics & reporting features using quantitative measures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python (or equivalent experience).
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
• Pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
