Description

Oversees and coordinates preparation of the sterile field for surgical procedures, including staffing and work assignments. Implements and updates policies, procedures, and protocols to streamline workflow, improve efficiency, and strengthen quality assurance, while independently supporting department operations through supply distribution and equipment maintenance/testing/setup. Directly supports surgeons during operations by passing instruments and supplies, holding retractors, and anticipating needs, ensuring care aligns with best practices, accreditation standards, and State/Federal regulations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee sterile field preparation for surgical operations; coordinate staffing and work assignments

• Implement and update departmental policies, procedures, and protocols to improve workflow and quality

• Support the department by distributing supplies and performing equipment maintenance, testing, and setup

• Assist during surgery by passing instruments/supplies, holding retractors, and anticipating surgeon needs

• Ensure strict adherence to aseptic technique and sterile field standards

• Maintain patient confidentiality and safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI)

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED

• Accredited Surgical Technology program graduate OR surgical technology completion certification

• Military training as a Surgical Scrub Technician may be accepted in lieu of a surgical technology program

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider

• Minimum 4 years of recent, relevant Surgical Technologist experience
