Description

You will prepare and maintain the operating room and sterile field for each surgical patient as part of the peri-operative surgical team. The role involves staging supplies, instruments, and equipment, assisting during procedures, and ensuring proper specimen and instrumentation handling and accurate counts. On-call coverage is required as designated by your manager.

Responsibilities

• Gather supplies, instruments, and equipment needed for each assigned surgical procedure
• Provide proper care and handling of specimens and surgical instrumentation
• Assist the surgical team during procedures requiring standing for more than 6 hours
• Demonstrate thorough aseptic technique and take corrective action for technique breaks
• Use fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination for small, intricate instruments and specimens
• Provide complete, accurate communication to all members of the surgical team
• Prepare and maintain the sterile field throughout the procedure
• Assist with draping and safe handling of sharps and instruments
• Maintain accurate counts of supplies, sutures, and sponges on the sterile field
• Orient new staff to the OR Scrub Technician role
• Stock the room with supplies and equipment
• Provide on-call coverage for the assigned department per the on-call policy

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technologists
• CPR recognition (healthcare provider level)

Preferred

• Certified Surgical Technologist
• Minimum 2 years current Operating Room scrub technician experience
