Description

Oversees and coordinates preparation of the sterile field for surgical operations, including staffing and work assignments. Implements and updates policies, procedures, and protocols to streamline workflow, improve efficiency, and strengthen quality assurance. Supports the surgical team during procedures by passing instruments and supplies, holding retractors, and anticipating surgeon needs, while ensuring compliance with best practices and all relevant standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, organize, and coordinate the sterile field for surgical operations
• Direct staffing and work assignments
• Distribute supplies; perform equipment maintenance, testing, and setup as needed
• Support surgeons during operations (instrument passing, supplies, retractors)
• Interpret instructions and maintain sterile technique and aseptic practices
• Serve as a resource and mentor for other team members

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent certification; military Surgical Scrub Technician training may be accepted in lieu
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification
• Minimum 4 years of recent, relevant Surgical Technologist experience
• Surgical Technician Certification (TS-C, CST, or NRST) required for eligibility for certification incentive pay (where applicable)
