Description

Board-Eligible or Board-Certified cardiothoracic surgeon needed for ongoing locum tenens coverage in an acute care hospital. The role provides urgent cardiothoracic surgical support, consultative services, and postoperative transition support from ICU through discharge, with backup support after consults. Stable patients may be managed conservatively until weekday staffing resumes.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour on-call coverage for urgent cardiothoracic surgical needs
• Support urgent cases, including patients transferred from the cath lab to the operating room
• Manage stable patients conservatively until weekday staffing resumes
• Provide postoperative care transition support (ICU to discharge)
• Provide backup support following consults
• Maintain average daily callback/rounding workflow (~2–4 hours/day)

Requirements

• Board-Eligible or Board-Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Active Pennsylvania medical license or willingness to obtain
• DEA required
• Minimum 1 year of experience
• Comfort managing urgent cardiothoracic surgical cases
• Experience working within a hospital-based surgical service
• Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
