Description

Design and evolve backend architecture across multiple teams, ensuring clear domain boundaries, reliable service communication, and scalable system design. Set architectural principles for distributed, event-driven systems (including state management, consistency, and API integration), lead technical discussions with ADRs/RFCs, and evaluate technology options for databases, cloud, messaging, and financial data processing. Improve AI-powered engineering workflows and mentor engineers while driving cross-team architectural standards aligned with platform strategy.

Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve backend systems across teams

• Define principles for distributed event-driven communication, state management, data consistency, and API integration

• Lead technical discussions and document decisions (ADRs, RFCs, design proposals)

• Evaluate and recommend solutions for databases, cloud infrastructure, messaging, and financial data processing

• Develop and optimize agentic/AI engineering workflows (monitoring, measurement, continuous improvement)

• Improve engineering practices, modernize solutions, and introduce common technical standards

• Collaborate with engineering leaders and product stakeholders on long-term platform strategy

• Mentor engineers via architectural reviews, knowledge sharing, and design discussions

• Drive cross-team technical initiatives and support architectural improvements

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering; at least 2 years in technical leadership or architecture responsibilities across multiple teams

• 3+ years designing distributed systems in the payments or fintech sector

• Strong backend engineering expertise across multiple technology stacks

• In-depth understanding of distributed system patterns: Event Sourcing, CQRS, Domain Events, Saga

• Experience designing state machines and managing lifecycle of financial entities

• Strong API architecture knowledge: REST APIs, asynchronous communication, event-driven integration contracts

• Ability to evaluate database technologies: relational, document, time-series, ledger-oriented

• Experience assessing cloud architecture on AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure

• Practical experience with agentic engineering environments: instrumentation, adoption tracking, performance measurement, iterative optimization

• Understanding of LLM tool-use patterns, context management, and AI-assisted software development workflows

• Experience preparing clear technical documentation: ADRs, RFCs, system design documents

• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to interface effectively

• Strong leadership skills and ability to work in a global matrix organization
