Description

Join a remote team as an IBM Z Db2 System Programmer to install, customize, configure, and maintain Db2 for z/OS. You will work with the mainframe team to ensure stability, performance, security, and reliability, including Db2 upgrades, software maintenance, and disaster recovery testing. The role also includes performance tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting, and operational support with IBM and third-party technologies.

Responsibilities

• Install, customize, configure, and maintain Db2 for z/OS and related products
• Perform Db2 upgrades and system-level configuration
• Support functional testing of backup and disaster recovery environments
• Monitor and optimize Db2 system performance (tuning and capacity planning)
• Administer Db2 security, access controls, and authorization rules using RACF and ACF2
• Install and maintain Db2 tools and supporting vendor software (IBM, Broadcom, others)
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and resolve system errors
• Support database planning, design, sizing, and ongoing system administration
• Work with IBM utilities, JCL, access methods, and mainframe file structures
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and operational guidelines
• Provide operational support and coordinate incident resolution and escalations
• Collaborate on problem management, reporting, and technical coordination
• Contribute to complex technical projects and solution design/implementation

Requirements

• Proven experience as an IBM Z Db2 System Programmer (or similar mainframe technical role)
• Hands-on experience with Db2 for z/OS installation, customization, and maintenance
• Solid knowledge of Db2 relational database concepts and architecture
• SMP/E knowledge for MVS software installation and maintenance
• Db2 administration, performance monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting experience
• Db2 security administration knowledge (RACF and/or ACF2)
• Experience with software maintenance, system upgrades, and release management
• Knowledge of IBM utilities, JCL, access methods, and mainframe file structures
• Disaster recovery processes and backup environment testing knowledge
• Experience with Db2 monitoring tools (IBM, Broadcom, or other vendors)
• Ability to diagnose complex technical problems and processing anomalies
• Experience preparing technical documentation and SOPs
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and business teams
