• Schedule: Part-time nights (7pm–7:30am) with rotating weekends
• Unit: Adult medical oncology/step-down (26 beds)
• Focus: Inpatient chemotherapy, symptom management, palliative and end-of-life/hospice care

Description

Registered Nurse role on a specialized adult oncology unit providing inpatient chemotherapy and symptom management. Care includes palliative and end-of-life/hospice support for patients age 18 and older. The position delivers individualized nursing care through assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, while coordinating with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze patient data; identify expected outcomes; develop and implement an individualized plan of care; evaluate progress
• Direct care and determine appropriate utilization of assistants involved in patient care
• Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff; create documented, outcome-focused care plans
• Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects
• Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record and individualize the plan of care
• Use best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions

Requirements

• BSN required (ADN acceptable if committed to obtain BSN within 3 years of first day in the clinical nurse role)
• Current Illinois Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to collaborate with others
• Strong analytic abilities
