Description

Support objective, non-partisan public policy analysis by assisting CRS analysts in preparing analytical studies and descriptive reports on nationally significant domestic social policy issues. Work across policy areas such as children and families, domestic security and immigration, education and labor, health insurance and financing, health services, and income security. Conduct research and data analytical tasks, create and maintain databases/spreadsheets, and contribute to briefings, seminars, and the production of tables, graphs, and other inserts.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate journal articles and other analyses for authority, relevance, and currency; prepare abstracts summarizing key findings and methodologies
• Support collaborative research projects; track hearings and bills, synthesize and track state policies, perform fact checking and quality control
• Build and maintain databases for program authorizations/appropriations and manage amendments/conference documents for active legislation
• Prepare materials for consultations, briefings, seminars, and outreach; attend to record questions and engagement
• Create/populate databases and spreadsheets; standardize data; perform data input, calculations, and analysis
• Locate, extract, compile, and evaluate quantitative data; clean/manipulate data using Excel or programming
• Format and verify tables, graphs, images, and other inserts; update statistics and recommend quality control procedures
