Description

The Housing Manager serves as the supervisor for the Fisher House Program, providing temporary accommodations and support for families, support persons, and caregivers of Veterans and Active Duty Military receiving treatment. The role plans, directs, and administers operational, administrative, financial, and programmatic aspects of the program, ensuring compliance and a safe, family-centered environment. Responsibilities include managing daily lodging operations, budgets, staff/volunteers/contractors, quality improvement, and coordination with VA and community stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and administer operational, administrative, financial, and programmatic aspects of the Fisher House Program
• Manage program budgets, expenditures, and resources to steward government and donated funds
• Supervise staff, volunteers, and contractors; assign work priorities and evaluate program performance
• Oversee daily operations: guest admissions, occupancy management, lodging services, transportation coordination, and volunteer activities
• Ensure a safe, supportive, family-centered environment for guests receiving medical care
• Develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and standard operating practices for compliance with VHA/VA and Fisher House Foundation requirements
• Conduct program reviews, analyze operational data, and implement quality improvement initiatives
• Collaborate with facility leadership and support services on maintenance, capital improvements, and long-range planning
• Coordinate access to supportive services and community resources (e.g., social work, chaplain, patient advocacy, financial assistance, childcare, transportation)
• Serve as primary liaison among the medical facility, National VA Fisher House Program Office, Fisher House Foundation, and stakeholders
• Prepare reports and briefings and develop corrective action plans based on operational performance metrics
• Lead outreach, volunteer engagement, public affairs coordination, educational activities, and community partnerships
• Represent the program at meetings, conferences, and community events
• Provide leadership, guidance, and technical expertise to support exceptional guest experiences

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship
• Complete all required steps, including application, assessment, and questionnaire
• Pass pre-placement physical examination
• Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
• Subject to background/security investigation
• Complete online onboarding and provide acceptable identification (REAL ID compliant after May 7, 2025)
• Seasonal influenza vaccination is required
• Complete a 1-year probationary period or 2-year trial period
• Specialized experience: 1 year equivalent to at least GS-11 in maintaining services, overseeing day-to-day operations, training on program operations, budget responsibility, developing memorandums and SOPs, communicating the mission to stakeholders, and collaborating with senior management and community partners
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record; ability to drive a government vehicle
• Preferred: guest relations, Fisher House program experience, supervisory experience, budgeting/purchasing/contracting experience
