Description

The Virtual Mental Health Intake RN performs thorough intake services by screening psychiatric and medical needs for incoming referrals for psychiatric and chemical dependency admissions. The role uses phone triage and virtual patient assessments to handle acute crises, conduct mental status assessments when an involuntary hold evaluation is required, and determine the correct level of care and patient placement. Using the nursing process and approved telephone nursing guidelines and protocols, the nurse provides illness advice, self-care intervention, and appropriate consulting and referrals.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial screening for psychiatric and chemical dependency admissions
• Perform phone triage and virtual patient assessments, including acute crisis disposition
• Complete mental status assessments for involuntary hold evaluations
• Triage patients to the appropriate level of care based on severity and determine placement
• Provide illness advice and self-care interventions; identify resources
• Consult and refer using nursing process, physician input, and approved protocols
• Maintain privacy of protected health information (PHI) and ensure safe, quality outcomes

Requirements

• Must be a resident of Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Tennessee, or South Carolina
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• RN license in the state of residence
• Must be able to acquire a California RN license prior to starting
• 1 year of mental health experience
• 2 years of practical nursing experience in a hospital, clinic, urgent care, or emergency department
