Description

Executes laboratory procedures in assigned areas to deliver accurate results in a timely manner. Performs basic and complex testing, including phlebotomy, specimen processing, quality control, quality assurance, and CLIA-classified waived, moderate, or high complexity testing. If assigned to Transfusion Service, performs moderate/high complexity testing plus duties such as blood inventory management, blood product preparation, and issuing blood products for transfusion.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic procedures on biological specimens

• Conduct routine and complex laboratory procedures in assigned clinical specialties (e.g., Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Hematology/Coagulation, Urinalysis, Transfusion Service)

• Maintain competence in laboratory operations, quality control, and quality assurance

• Manage workflow variations (volume changes, STAT orders, specimen integrity issues)

• Respond to equipment or information system failures and support shift-to-shift handoffs

• Adhere to local/state/federal regulations and lab policies to ensure patient privacy and safety

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field

• CA Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)

• Demonstrated knowledge and technical competence in routine specimen collection, preparation, testing applications, laboratory operations, and quality assurance in one or more assigned clinical specialty areas
