Description

The Physician Assistant will support physicians by providing supervised care that facilitates patients’ recovery. The role includes assessing patients, recording histories, performing exams and minor procedures, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and monitoring treatment responses. You will counsel patients, maintain accurate records, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide healthcare services under supervision of a physician
• Examine patients and record medical histories
• Conduct physicals and treat minor injuries (e.g., sutures, splints)
• Order diagnostic tests, interpret results, and diagnose conditions
• Prescribe therapy or medication with physician approval
• Monitor responses to treatments and counsel patients
• Assess patient health needs and help meet them
• Issue appropriate prescriptions and administer medicine
• Inform physicians about problems or discrepancies
• Acquire and review patient histories for abnormal conditions
• Monitor patient progress and document treatments, surgeries, and medical events
• Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine procedures (e.g., measure blood pressure/temperature, administer injections)
• Provide therapeutic treatments (e.g., disinfecting wounds, stitching)
• Collaborate with team members across specializations
• Attend to emergencies

Requirements

• Master’s Degree required
• Active New York Physician Assistant license
• New York Controlled Substance registration
• DEA registration
• Graduate of an approved PA program and post-graduate training in surgery or at least one year equivalent work experience
• Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
• Experience in Emergency Medicine/Family Practice/Acute Care
• DOT, BLS, ACLS preferred
• Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
• Proven work experience as a physician assistant or nurse
• Knowledge of EMR systems preferred
