Description

Responsible for diagnosing eye ailments and traumatic eye injuries, prescribing medications and corrective lenses, and performing surgical procedures ranging from routine care to advanced keyhole or laser surgery. The role includes managing emergency or outpatient eye clinics and providing therapeutic procedures (including biopsies). Candidates should stay up-to-date on eye diseases, functions, and anatomy and deliver meticulous, analytical care.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine vision care, including vision testing and prescribing glasses and contact lenses

• Perform corrective surgeries (repair injuries and corneas; remove cataracts)

• Conduct advanced procedures such as keyhole or laser surgery

• Diagnose and treat eye diseases and injuries

• Manage emergency eye clinics, outpatient clinics, or other specialist eye clinics

• Treat vision-impacting medical disorders using a holistic approach

• Use therapeutic procedures and perform biopsies

Requirements

• Medical degree in ophthalmology

• Successful completion of an internship and residency in ophthalmology

• State license to practice ophthalmology

• Expert working knowledge of the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye

• Strong physics and math skills and excellent medical knowledge

• Good administrative and managerial skills

• Good hand-eye coordination

• Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Benefits
