Description

Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with severe or chronic breathing issues, including structural, inflammatory, infectious, and neoplastic respiratory disorders. Perform specialist procedures (e.g., pleural biopsies) and interpret pulmonology exams and tests to support cardiopulmonary diagnosis. Provide compassionate patient care, long-term support, and contribute to research on new medications and treatment methods.

Responsibilities

• Consult with patients to understand symptoms and health concerns

• Diagnose and treat conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema

• Use and interpret pulmonology exams and tests (including CT scans, chest fluoroscopies, ultrasounds, and bronchoscopies)

• Perform specialized procedures to collect samples from the chest wall lining or lungs for further analysis

• Provide immunizations against preventable cardiopulmonary diseases

• Maintain detailed appointment notes (comments, tests, prescribed treatments, and results)

• Support and advise patients receiving long-term care

• Conduct research into testing and development of new medications and methods of treatment

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, physical sciences, or a related field

• MD degree

• 3 to 7 years’ internship and clinical residency training specializing in pulmonology

• American Board of Internal Medicine certification in pulmonology

• Valid and active medical license in the state you wish to practice

• Exceptional attention to detail

• Outstanding research and analytical skills

• Excellent communication with the ability to empathize with patients
