Description

The AWS Data Center Services team is hiring a Principal Applied Scientist to innovate and advance the science behind solutions for AWS data center problems. Work spans selecting, training, and evolving computer vision models for infrastructure activities, building retrieval algorithms to improve generative AI decision certainty, and reducing hallucinations for safety-critical outcomes without sacrificing latency or performance. You will own the full lifecycle from research through production deployment, partnering with software teams and publishing results.

Role Description & Responsibilities

• Work backwards from operational problems and partner with software development teams to deliver solutions
• Design experiments to test hypotheses using historical incident data and verification traces
• Select, train, and evolve computer vision models for targeted activities inside AWS data centers
• Build smart retrieval algorithms and continually improve knowledge accuracy and freshness
• Reduce hallucination risk on safety-critical outcomes while improving latency and performance
• Prototype cross-discipline reasoning for cascades spanning multiple infrastructure domains
• Own the research-to-production lifecycle and publish results

Requirements

• PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Statistics, or another highly quantitative field
• Strong problem solving ability
• Good skills in Python (or similar language)
• Strong communication and data presentation skills
• Proven track record of delivery
