Description

The AWS Data Center Services team is hiring a Principal Applied Scientist to innovate and advance AI-driven science for rapidly growing AWS data center challenges. Work spans selecting, training, and evolving computer vision models for targeted infrastructure activities, and building retrieval and reasoning approaches for generative AI that reduce hallucinations on safety-critical outcomes while preserving latency and performance. You partner with software development teams to deliver end-to-end solutions for incident triage and operational decision support.

Responsibilities

• Work backwards from real data center problems and design experiments to improve agent accuracy and decision-making.
• Collaborate with software teams to deliver AI solutions from research through production deployment.
• Develop and evolve computer vision models for infrastructure-related activities.
• Build smart retrieval algorithms and continual improvements to reduce hallucinations and increase latency/performance efficiency.
• Create benchmarks and evaluate performance using incident traces, maintenance history, topology, and design documents.

Requirements

• PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Statistics, or a highly quantitative field.
• Strong problem-solving ability.
• Good skills in Python (or a similar language).
• Strong communication and data presentation skills.
• Proven track record of delivery.
