Software Development Engineer, Network Connectivity

Mid

175,000 - 210,000 USD/yr

Seattle, WA

Quick Facts

  • Role: Software Development Engineer (Building Connectivity Software Systems)
  • Focus: AWS-based automation for network fabric configuration and deployment in Amazon data centers

Description

You will build the controller and orchestration software that models intended network state, computes what each new site needs, renders device configuration, and drives deployment and monitoring. You will contribute to next releases such as a versioned model with full history and rollback, configuration rendered from the model, and orchestration that takes a site from plan to live traffic with one physical touch.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build AWS services (Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, EventBridge, CDK) modeled with Smithy and deployed through pipelines you own
  • Write design documents for what you build
  • Integrate with AWS Networking systems of record (IP address management, device registry, routing-policy store, configuration/release, deployment, cabling plans)
  • Prove correctness in shadow mode by diffing computed automation results against engineer hand-built outcomes
  • Own services in production: metrics, alarms, runbooks, and on-call rotation
  • Keep fabric knowledge out of code so new fabrics/site types/rack types can be handled as configuration changes
  • Estimate honestly and raise partner needs and unknowns early

Benefits

  • Health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription) and life insurance options
  • 401(k) matching
  • Paid time off and parental leave
  • Support resources including EAP, mental health support, and a medical advice line
  • Flexible Spending Accounts plus adoption and surrogacy reimbursement

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, scaling)
  • 1+ year of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ year designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software using C#, C++, Java, or Perl
  • 1+ year of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (CS/Engineering/Math or related) or foreign equivalent
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
